Ch, Col Charlie Sattgast

Chaplain, Col Charlie Sattgast comes to the chaplaincy with a varied ministry background. He is endorsed by the Foursquare Church and has served over the years as a senior pastor, associate pastor, worship pastor, and children’s pastor. He currently serves as a volunteer assisting minister in his local church, The Oregon Community, in Portland, Oregon.

Ch Sattgast has been in CAP since 2001. In addition to his Chaplain master rating, he holds a senior rating in Cadet Programs. He is also active in Emergency Services as a Mission Chaplain and earned CAP’s highest achievement, the Gill Robb Wilson Award, (#2497) in 2007.

Past Duty Assignments and Awards

Ch Sattgast previously served as Oregon Wing Chaplain from 2005 to 2008 and October 2012 to May 2013, Deputy Pacific Region Chaplain from October 2008 to March 2011, Pacific Region Chaplain from August 2013 to August 2015, and Deputy Chief of the Chaplain Corps from September 2015 to August 2017.

He has served as chaplain at five encampments, National Cadet Competition, twice at National Staff College, and as an escort to Israel on the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE). He has been named Pacific Region Squadron Chaplain of the Year, Pacific Region Senior Chaplain of the Year, Pacific Region Staff Officer of the Year, and 2013 CAP National Squadron Chaplain of the Year.

Ch Sattgast holds a master’s degree from Multnomah Biblical Seminary, and a doctorate in leadership development from Bethel University.

He and his wife, Linda, have two adult children and own an online training company that helps people preserve the stories of their lives for future generations. The Sattgasts live in Portland, Oregon when the weather is nice and Yuma, Arizona when it isn’t. Ch Sattgast enjoys backpacking, rock climbing, playing music (electric and upright bass), ballroom dancing, being a handyman, and spending time with friends and family.
